The standard

The French January 3rd 2003 Pool Safety Act is intended to prevent the risks of young children drowning in pools. This legislation imposes the installation of a standardised system :

  • Since January 1st 2004, newly built private pools, both for private and community use, must be fitted with a safety system.

  • Since May 1st 2004, existing pools in housing used as holiday rentals are also subject to this duty.

  • Since January 1st 2006, all other existing pools must be fitted with a safety system.

This concerns open air, in-ground or partially in-ground private pools for individual or community use.

Safety products are tested by test laboratories and are compliant with the requirements of the NF P 90-308 standard.

The standard concerns manufacturers and directly involves installers and users.

The standard defines the contents of the installation, user, care and maintenance instructions and the safety recommendations which must imperatively be supplied to the end customer to be read and kept available for future use.
